A second Trump presidency might never end

There is every indication that a second Trump presidential term would lead to a third and possibly more, if the man stays alive. Some recent examples:

In March 2018, referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s abolition of term limits, Trump said: “Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot someday”

At a rally with Republican members of Congress in April 2018, Trump mused: “Should we go back to 16 years? Should we do that?”

In June 2019, Trump tweeted about the possibility of people demanding he stay longer, asking: “do you think the people would demand that I stay longer?”

At a White House event for Wounded Warriors, Trump joked about keeping a trophy “at least for six years” in the Oval Office, then added: “I was going to joke, ‘and say at least for 10 or 14 years, but we would cause bedlam if I said that, so we’ll say six.”

At the National Rifle Association annual meeting in May 2024, Trump asked the audience: “You know, FDR had almost 16 years — four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term or two-term presidents?”

At a Christian summit in Florida, Trump told the audience: “Get out and vote just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years. You know what? It’ll be…
